An unprecedented memoir that lifts the veil on the very institution charged with covering San Diego—the San Diego Union, Tribune, and San Diego Union-Tribune. Reporter Preston Turegano's page-turning book introduces readers to the inside scoop on the paper of record for “America's Finest City,” documenting newsroom intrigues, local disputes, and more.

The book unfolds as a rambunctious tell-all memoir, filled with a reporter's savvy and a comedian's snarky bite. The Associated Preston offers a unique history of a gay reporter, a newspaper, and a city, and reveals that the heralded paper of record for San Diego often looked the other way when stories came from its own newsrooms.

Advance Word

“Every newsroom needs a character like Preston Turegano—gossip, gadfly, and to managers, a goad. For nearly four decades Turegano relished that role at San Diego's Evening Tribune and Union-Tribune. In his dishy The Associated Preston, he pulls no punches or opinions about behind-the-scenes staff and ownership power struggles. But there's plenty to enjoy outside the vanishing world of local journalism in Turegano's chatty book...”Anne Marie Welsh — veteran San Diego Union-Tribune arts critic
